BECOME A MEMBER

Santa Fe’s Green Chamber of Commerce works to build a sustainable community of local businesses that are environmentally sound, economically viable and socially responsible through action, advocacy and education.

Advocating for green public policy and issues that support sustainable business is a year round part of what we do. Our Chamber is involved at the city, county and state levels promoting legislation that benefits our community and our membership.

We actively lobby for community solar power, clean energy and energy efficiency, as well as issues that promote green jobs and a better business climate in Santa Fe.

Also core to mission is our Think Local approach to doing business. Local business owners are our communities greatest contributors, offering stable employment and a diversity of goods and services, with less environmental impact than their corporate, big box competitors.We publish and annual business directory that goes to tens of thousands of New Mexicans because money spent locally stays local.

We are extremely active in local events and work closely with our progressive Mayor to represent Santa Fe’s Green Businesses. Our recent activity in the City of Santa Fe include:

Support of Single-use bag ordinance
Santa Fe Green Lodging Initiative Working Group

STATE AND NATIONAL

The interests and values of our Chamber Members are fully represented annually at the state legislative session by our Executive Director, Glenn Schiffbauer.

We actively lobby for community solar power, clean energy initiatives and a wide variety of issues that promote green jobs and a better business climate state wide. In 2015, we were at the round house representing your values.

The following is what we focused on:

Supported and helped Sen. Benny Shendo in the passage of Senate Memorial 29 calling for a task force to study the impacts of venting and flaring of natural gas, particularly in the Chaco Canyon region
Participated in flyovers of Chaco Canyon with the Western Energy Project to help create awareness of the flaring occurring in the Chaco Canyon region
Lobbied with Environment New Mexico in passing Senate Bill 391, Extension of the Solar Tax Credit through the Senate and House. Awaiting signature from Governor.
Helped draft and lobby for Senate Bill 96, Voluntary Benefit Corporations legislation
In the past, Chamber has actively helped to pass bills that:
Extend the Sustainable Business Tax Credit
Establish a uniform procedure for the issuance of permits for construction and instillation of solar collectors.
Removing single-use plastic bags from the Santa Fe waste cycle.

Nationally, Glenn traveled to Washington DC this past March. He was invited to participate with the NRDC, Sierra Club, Western Environmental Law Center, Environmental Defense Fund and other groups to lobby in Washington D.C. for methane mitigation rules that are being brought forward by the EPA and the BLM.

In Washington, Glenn represented our interests to the NM Congressional delegation and CEQ in the White House
